The Elastic Time Cannon – The PIT Loft
June 16, 2018 – New York

The Elastic Time Cannon is a mind bending, time blending, never ending adventure through the space-time continuum. With the suggestion of an opening line of dialogue this extratemporal cast creates an expanding and eventually collapsing universe of characters all born from the same moment in time. ETC shows are marked with causal loops, dimensional incursions, and a multiverse of high stakes moments. It’s an absurd, laugh out loud thrill ride of a show!

Monsieur Periné – Highline Ballroom
June 16, 2018 – New York

One of the leading bands in Colombia’s new music scene, Monsieur Periné won the Latin Grammy Award for Best New Artist and earned a Grammy Award nomination for their most recent album, Caja de Música. Rooted in gypsy jazz and celebrating the tradition of Django Reinhardt, Monsieur Periné’s fresh style adds a variety of Latin elements to the mix. Incorporating genres like cumbia, son, bolero, tango, and samba, the band performs on traditional South American instruments from the charango, to the bandoneon, and Latin percussion. Their airy yet virtuosic instrumental foundation connects 1930s Paris with the youthful spirit of modern Bogotá. It’s the perfect backdrop to showcase Catalina Garcia’s sugar-sweet, sunshiny vocals at the very center of their signature “swing a la Colombiana” style. With the help of the illustrator José Arboleda and their own fashion designer, the band has created a world of their own that comes to life in their music, their artwork, and, of course, their performances. Monsieur Periné’s early 2018 album release will surely put their unique creativity on display.

Through this multi-year series of exhibitions, Agora Gallery will highlight the richness and breadth of contemporary Italian art, a genre that is underrepresented but acutely desired in New York City. This iteration is organized in collaboration with Contemply, Florence, Italy.
The diverse works featured in From Italy with Love are connected through an innate engagement with figuration, a tradition inextricable from the country’s history. Through distinctive approaches, the artists in this exhibition re-envision the patrimony of figurative art and communicate varied perspectives on the body. Fragmentation, abstraction, and deconstruction feature prominently in these works that depict form but also capture mood and attitude. At A’18, some of the most creative architects, designers, and firms will share how they’re creating their own blueprint and making a difference in cities all over the world, from London, Arkansas to London, England.
Better by design
It’s time to think more critically about health and resilience, about taking care of each other and the environment, and about solving for “X,” all through the lens of what we build—and what we don’t.
Architects are right in the middle of it, making cities large and small—the superblocks, the micro-communities, and everything in between—better by design.

R.U.R., which stands for Rossum’s Universal Robots, presents a series of new, interactive video installations based on Karel Kapek’s 1920 science fiction play of the same name in which the term “robot” was first used. The play explores the speed of technological progress and the uncertainties and dehumanization that occurs as a result of the robotization of human interactions. In Hartung’s adaptation, the original play is re-written through photographs, costumes and interactive videos that pose the question: Why do men want to create robots that look human?
Tommy Hartung’s works analyze the creation and dissemination of cultural narratives by fragmenting and deconstructing his source material. Through the montages of stop motion animation and found footage, Hartung uses the themes of modernism as his subject matter. His sculptures, the subjects of his videos, are assembled through scavenged material to form hybri… (read more)

World Premiere Musical
THIS AIN’T NO DISCO
Musical & Lyrics by STEPHEN TRASK & PETER YANOWITZ
Book by STEPHEN TRASK & PETER YANOWITZ
and RICK ELICE
Directed by TRIP CULLMAN
Linda Gross Theater, 336 West 20th Street
Set against the grit, the garbage strikes, the graffiti of 1979 New York City, This Ain’t No Disco tells the story of drifters and dreamers searching for their place in the night world of Studio 54 and Mudd Club. In their uptown/downtown quest for revelry and kinship, every decision is fateful in a city where one’s fate can turn on a dime bag. An electrifying new musical from composer/lyricist of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Stephen Trask, along with Peter Yanowitz (The Wallflowers), directed by Trip Cullman (Atlantic’s I’m Gonna Pray For You So Hard, Broadway’s Six Degrees of Separation).
“Trask’s songs have everything: melody, swagger, piano, wit, electric guitar, harmony, fun, angst, a little filth. The band, [Yanowitz & co], combine the look of old-school glam and punk with the one thing the genre currently lacks: youth.” – The New Yorker
